Natalia Gomes Miguel worked as a summer intern at the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation (VOC)

Victims of Communism
My name is Natalia Gomes Miguel, and I come from Miami, Florida. Both sides of my family have experienced the harsh realities of communism. My grandmother bravely escaped Soviet Russia, fleeing oppression to seek a better life. Similarly, my mother fled Brazil, and my father left Venezuela, each in pursuit of freedom and opportunity. Their journeys have deeply influenced my appreciation for liberty and human rights.
Interning at VOC was an honor. My internship allowed me to contribute to an organization that not only commemorates the struggles my family faced but also honors the sacrifices of millions of others who endured persecution under communist regimes. This experience was personally fulfilling, bridging my family's history with a commitment to preserving freedom and democracy.
During my time at VOC, I was actively involved in organizing events, was responsible for managing and developing content for VOC newsletters, and conducted filming and interviews of students who toured the Victims of Communism Museum. These responsibilities enhanced my professional skills and also deepened my understanding of the impact of totalitarianism on societies and individuals.
Your support for VOC is crucial in continuing this important work. By preserving and sharing these stories, we ensure that the lessons of history are not forgotten and that the fight for human dignity and freedom remains alive. Thank you for making a meaningful impact and supporting an organization that values liberty and upholds the memory of those who have suffered under oppressive regimes.
Warm regards,
Natalia Gomes Miguel
