Two Former Butte County Ag Commissioners Endorse Jamie Johansson for Assembly

Mar 18, 2025 03:51PM ● By Jamie Johansson For Assembly News Release

BUTTE COUNTY, CA (MPG) – With nearly four decades of combined service to Butte County agriculture, former Agricultural Commissioners Richard Price and Louie Mendoza have announced their endorsement of Jamie Johansson for California’s 3rd Assembly District. Both leaders, who played key roles in shaping agricultural policy and water management in the region, recognize Johansson’s deep understanding of the challenges facing North State farmers and his ability to be a strong advocate in Sacramento.

“Jamie Johansson has been a champion for agriculture, small businesses, and our rural communities starting back when he began farming in the 1990s through his 14-year run in leadership at the California Farm Bureau,” said Richard Price, who has known Jamie throughout his career. Price served as Butte County’s Agricultural Commissioner for 28 years. “He understands the importance of water security, regulatory reform, and ensuring our farmers have the resources they need to thrive. Jamie is exactly the kind of leader we need in the Assembly to stand up for our way of life.”

Price, who retired in 2015, was instrumental in fostering collaboration between local farmers and regulatory agencies, including co-initiating a pilot program in 2005 to enhance the Regional Water Quality Control Board’s understanding of Sacramento Valley agriculture.

Mendoza, who recently retired in December 2024 after serving as Butte County’s Agricultural Commissioner for nine years, echoed Price’s sentiment.

“Jamie doesn’t just talk about supporting agriculture—he lives it,” Mendoza said. “His experience as a farmer, president of the California Farm Bureau and business owner gives him firsthand knowledge of the challenges we face. He will fight for policies that protect our water, strengthen our farms, and keep our rural economy strong.”

Mendoza’s career in agricultural regulation spanned 38 years, including over a decade as Assistant Agricultural Commissioner in Butte County and eight years as Agricultural Commissioner in Yuba County. His leadership has been instrumental in advancing agricultural practices and ensuring the sustainability of the region’s resources.

Johansson expressed his gratitude for the endorsements, stating:

“Having the support of both Richard and Louie—two of the most respected agricultural leaders in our region—is truly an honor,” said Johansson. “They’ve spent their careers fighting for Butte County’s farmers and water rights, and I look forward to continuing that fight in the State Assembly.”

Johansson, a farmer, small business owner, and former Oroville City Councilmember, has built a strong coalition of supporters dedicated to protecting North State agriculture, water resources, and local businesses.
