SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) – Assemblywoman Heather Hadwick (R-Alturas) celebrated California Agriculture Day, or “Ag Day,” on the West Steps of the State Capitol Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

Hosted in partnership with California Women for Agriculture and the California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom, Ag Day is an annual celebration recognizing California’s agricultural community by showcasing the bounty of crops and commodities produced in the state. It also serves as an opportunity for farmers and ranchers to engage with state legislators, government leaders, and the public to highlight the vital role agriculture plays in California’s economy and way of life.

Assemblywoman Hadwick brought two of her Highland cattle, Hickory (bull) and Skye (cow), from her family farm in Alturas to the event, where they quickly became the celebration’s main attraction. The Assemblywoman and her husband answered questions about the cows and farm life, sharing insights into the dedication and hard work required to sustain family farms and ranches.

“As a farmer, I know firsthand how vital agriculture is to California’s economy, culture, and communities,” said Assemblywoman Hadwick. “California’s farmers and ranchers feed the nation, and events like Ag Day give us an opportunity to recognize their contributions while also educating the public about the work that goes into putting food on our tables.”

Agriculture is a cornerstone of California’s economy, contributing over $50 billion annually and supporting millions of jobs across the state. For many in Assembly District 1, agriculture is the life-blood of the local economy. From cattle ranching and dairy farms to timber production and specialty crops, the district is home to a diverse range of agricultural operations which sustain families and businesses throughout the region.

“Our district is incredibly rural, and frankly, it’s built on agriculture,” Assemblywoman Hadwick continued. “ Agriculture doesn’t just provide food and resources—it keeps small towns and rural economies alive. Without strong support for our farmers and ranchers, these communities would struggle to survive. That’s why it’s so important to recognize their hard work and advocate for policies that protect and sustain our agricultural industry. We must continue to invest in and uplift those who feed America.”
