DeMaio Statement on Trump Citizenship Verification in Voting Executive Order

Apr 28, 2025 03:16PM ● By Assemblyman Carl DeMaio News Release

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA (MPG) - California Assemblyman Carl DeMaio, co-author of the California Voter ID and Election Integrity Act of 2025 (AB 25), issued the following in response to President Trump's "Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections" Executive Order to require verification of citizenship in federal elections:

“Polling shows overwhelming public support for requiring citizenship verification in order to be able to vote. Unfortunately, California fails to properly verify citizenship status before adding individuals to our voter rolls.

We welcome the President’s Executive Order, these orders can always be revoked by new Administrations. That’s why I remain committed to a permanent state constitutional amendment to ensure that citizenship is verified in all elections," Assemblymember Carl DeMaio.

California State Assemblymember Carl DeMaio (R-San Diego) is a member of the California State Assembly representing District 75 which includes the communities of Fallbrook, Bonsall, Valley Center, Ramona, Poway, Scripps Ranch, Santee, Lakeside, Alpine, Julian, Borrego Springs, Pala, Jamul, Pine Valley, Pauma Valley, and Bonita.
