State of California Launches New Resource Site for Displaced Federal Workers

Apr 28, 2025 04:33PM ● By Work for California News Release

SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) – In response to the Governor’s executive order to recruit federal workers, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) is launching a new campaign to help current or former federal workers apply to the state and learn more at the Work4CA federal workers webpage, a dedicated resource for those seeking employment with the State of California. This webpage provides resources to simplify the state application process and connects the federal workforce with rewarding careers within state service.

“California values the skillset and experience federal workers bring to public service – and we want them to know that there is a place for them here in the Golden State,” Governor Gavin Newsom said. “Recruiting these experienced professionals to fill key job openings in a variety of fields can help us now and into the future.”

Why It Matters: In response to the uncertainties facing the federal workforce, Governor Newsom issued an executive order directing CalHR to begin a recruitment campaign and launch an employee resource website to help connect the federal workforce with current state job opportunities, virtual job fairs and virtual job counseling. With a focus on firefighting, weather forecasting and modeling, natural resource management, medical and mental health, and the sciences, CalHR will assess vacant jobs that match these skillsets.

Federal workers can access:

On April 10, CalHR will host a workshop entitled, Start Your State Career: How to Apply for a State Job, geared toward those impacted by the federal workforce layoffs. This session will cover the benefits of state work, the application process and resources for transitioning into the state workforce.

“Our workforce is strongest when we open doors of opportunities to everyone, including recently displaced federal workers,” said California Government Operations Secretary Nick Maduros. “We all benefit if California can harness their valuable skills to help serve Californians.”
