SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - The California Republican Party (@CAGOP) launched video ads on May 6, 2025, targeting Democratic Assemblymembers who voted last Thursday to strip Assembly Bill 379 of a provision that would have made soliciting a 16 or 17-year-old for sex a felony rather than a misdemeanor.
The video ad features three California teenage girls speaking directly to camera, confronting not just fear, but the harsh reality that adults who solicit sex from 16- and 17-year-olds often escape real punishment. With a nod to pop culture references, the video underscores a simple, unmistakable truth: California Democrats are not like us. They chose to protect predators, not kids.
The California Republican Party is joining the liberal alternative to X, Bluesky, today with these videos as its first posts. You can find the account here: https://bsky.app/profile/carepublicans.bsky.social
Additionally, the video can be found here.
The video ad has been deployed digitally throughout California with a five-figure budget targeting women and parents.
The first eight video ad buys will name and target the following Assemblymembers who voted to prioritize predators over children:
Esmeralda Z. Soria, District 27
Pilar Schiavo, District 40
Jacqui Irwin, District 42
Dr. Corey A. Jackson, District 60
Sharon Quirk-Silva, District 67
Dr. Darshana Patel, District 76
“There’s no excuse for voting to protect predators,” said California Republican Party Chairwoman, Corrin Rankin (@CorrinRankin). "No parent should have to explain why Democrats refused to make it a felony to buy sex from a teenager. That’s not justice. That’s betrayal. The California Democratic Party isn’t just out of touch. They are a threat to our kids’ safety. And we are going to hold them accountable. Every vote. Every district.”
Here is the video script:
Teenager: "Democratic Assemblymember and the rest of the Democrats in the state Assembly blocked a law that would’ve protected us."
Teenager: "I’m 17. In California, soliciting a teenager for sex isn’t always a felony. That’s not right.
Teenager: "I’m 16. Every day, I worry about being targeted, being unsafe."
Teenager: "They not like us—they don’t know what it’s like to feel this fear."
Teenager: "Our safety isn’t minor. This crime should never be just a misdemeanor."
Teenager: "It isn’t a minor crime—it’s a violation of our childhood."
Teenager: "Call your Democratic Assemblymember today. Tell them to protect us."
Teenager: "Because trying to buy a child should break the law, not bend it."
