SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - Two of the California Legislature's leading voices for common sense solutions on public safety and the crisis of unsheltered homelessness, Assemblymember Maggy Krell and State Senator Catherine Blakespear, announced Feb. 20 their endorsement of Mayor Matt Mahan for California Governor.

“Matt Mahan and I have fought side by side to tackle the humanitarian crisis on our streets,”said State Senator Catherine Blakespear.  “He has the courage to say when something isn’t working for Californians — no matter the special interests, the consequences, or the blowback. Matt stands up for what’s right, not what’s easy.”

“When I proposed tougher penalties for sex traffickers like Jeffrey Epstein and his pals, the political establishment turned against me. Matt helped me push back,” said Assemblymember Maggy Krell.  "Matt Mahan will be the Governor Californians need. Progress requires challenging the status quo."

State Senator Catherine Blakespear represents the 38th District, which includes parts of San Diego and Orange Counties. There, she's led efforts to raise awareness about the state's homelessness crisis, successfully passed legislation to prevent gun violence and Chairs the Senate Committee on Environmental Quality.  She previously served as Mayor of the City of Encinitas.

Assemblymember Maggy Krell represents the 6th district in Sacramento County.  She previously served as a Deputy Attorney General at the California Department of Justice, where she was recognized for her groundbreaking work protecting children from traffickers and online predators. She later served as Chief Legal Counsel at Planned Parenthood defending the right to Reproductive Freedom from attacks by the Trump Administration.

"Senator Blakespear and Assemblymember Krell are each accomplished, reform-minded leaders who know what it means to fight for California's values and fix its most pressing problems," said San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan.  "That's what our back to basics agenda is all about, and I couldn't be prouder to have their support in this campaign."
