NAPA, CA (MPG) - Congressman Mike Thompson officially filed for reelection in California’s 4th Congressional District. If re-elected, Congressman Thompson will be the second highest ranking Democrat on the most powerful committee in Congress, the Ways and Means Committee.

“I was born, grew up and still live in our district and it’s my honor to represent our district in Congress. I fought for our country in combat before and I won’t back down now. My top priority is fighting for our democracy and civil rights by standing up to Donald Trump and I won’t back down” said Rep. Mike Thompson. “I am using every tool available to stop this president’s unlawful actions and illegal wars that are tearing our nation apart and making us less safe.

“I’ll keep fighting to protect us here at home, too. I won’t stand by while ICE and Trump violate Americans’ rights with their cruel and illegal immigration practices. I voted against funding ICE, called out actions that violate the Constitution, and am cosponsoring Articles of Impeachment against Secretary Kristi Noem for violence against American citizens.

“And I’ll keep working to address the rising costs that are making it impossible for hard working Californians to get ahead. I support creating a single-payer healthcare system like Medicare for All and I am leading legislation to cut healthcare premiums, build housing and reduce energy prices. I’m putting money back into people’s pockets, as well, by recovering more than $85 million from the federal government for local residents,” continued Thompson.

In a strong show of grassroots support, 173 volunteers in all nine counties of California’s newly drawn Fourth Congressional District collected 3318 signatures -- nearly double the number required -- to place Congressman Thompson on the ballot.

Congressman Thompson is running in his newly redrawn Fourth Congressional District which contains parts or all of Colusa, Lake, Napa, Placer,  Sacramento, Sonoma, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba Counties.

Congressman Thompson is proud to have earned a broad coalition of grassroots support from the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Sierra Club, California Young Democrats, firefighters, nurses, teachers, veterans, farm bureaus, local Chamber of Commerce PACs, federal and state leaders, and more than 230 local elected officials, business, non-profit, tribal and community leaders from across our district.
