“I’m endorsing Jamie Johansson because he and I have very similar backgrounds in the area of public service,” Hastey said. “We both ran very large statewide organizations. Doing so gives you a perspective that is broader and makes you a better local leader, Johansson understands what our entire state is up against and that experience helps him to be able to act locally.”

“I am confident Jamie is the right choice for effective leadership in Sacramento at the California Assembly, and I fully support him,” Hastey said.

Hastey made the endorsement outside his Plumas Lake business, where he is proudly displaying a Johansson for Assembly sign along Highway 70.

Hastey was elected president of the Association of California Water Agencies in 2017 after serving as the organization’s vice president and as a member of its Region 2 Board. He served multiple leadership roles with ACWA while also serving on the Yuba Water Agency Board. Yuba Water Agency has recognized Hastey for his statewide water leadership and his contributions to California’s water community.

His public service has also included the Yuba County Board of Supervisors, Yuba Community College District, Reclamation District 784, Yuba County LAFCO, the Regional Council of Rural Counties and the Sacramento Area Council of Governments. He has served in leadership roles in both local and statewide community college organizations as well.

Johansson said Hastey’s support is particularly meaningful because of their shared work on California water issues.

“I’m grateful to Brent Hastey for his endorsement and for his many years of service to our community,” Johansson said. “I first got to know Brent during a pivotal period for California water, when we were working toward the same goal: protecting our water rights and making sure California’s water policy recognized the needs of both agriculture and our urban communities.”

Johansson said the November election will ultimately be decided by the people who live, work and raise their families throughout Assembly District 3.
